Change Plan Instance Units

Overview

This article explains how to change a Plan Instance's units from the Master Plan Instance Details screen.

A customer may purchase additional units of a master plan instance for a few key reasons:

  • To support additional users or connections under their account. For example, a mobile carrier customer might purchase 2 units of a "Mobile Phone Plan" master plan to obtain service for 2 different phone numbers/devices.
  • To scale up their usage or connections allowed over time. For example, a customer on a "Mobile Phone Plan" that initially allows 1 GB of data per month may purchase a second unit later if their data usage increases beyond the initial plan's allowance.
  • To take advantage of discounts offered for purchasing multiple units of the same master plan. Some providers may offer lower per-unit pricing if a customer commits to purchasing a certain quantity of a recurring plan or service.
  • The ability to purchase multiple units of a master plan provides flexibility for customers to right-size and adjust their plan usage over time as their needs change. It also allows providers to bundle pricing incentives that benefit customers consolidating multiple recurring services under a single account.

  1. Enter the desired amount of plan units in the New Plan Units field.
  2. Choose when the new number of plan units should go into affect from the Assignment Scope selections. Options include:
    • Assign on Anniversary—The new number of plan units will go into effect on the plan's anniversary.
    • Assign Immediately—The new number of plan units will go into effect immediately. Choose this presents choices for a proration rule to be used to calculate charges, and a field in which you can specify an Alternative Proration Start Date. This date only impacts the proration calculation, not the effective date of the plan. This date cannot be earlier than the last date on which the customer was billed for the current plan or after the account's paid-through date.

    • Assign in Future—The new number of plan units will go into effect on a future specified date. You can specify an Effective Date when a plan change is queued for future execution. The Alternate Pro-ration Start Date is described above.

Note: The Effective Date must be in the future. If no Effective Date is chosen, the plan change will be queued forever until you provide an effective date by editing this parameter on the Future Plan Changes screen.

  3. If you chose to assign the new number of plan units on the plan's anniversary, you can define the Offset Interval. Offset intervals extend the plan's anniversary period by the defined number of intervals. The offset interval number cannot be lesser than or equal to zero.
  4. Click Save Changes.
The plan instance units are updated.
