Account Holder Billing Cycle

Overview

There are two main dates that you should focus on within an account holder billing cycle:

  • billing date
  • anniversary date

Billing Date

The billing date is the date on which a customer is charged for recurring charges and/or usage fees. This date is based on the recurring or usage billing interval of the Plan to which the customer is subscribed.

Examples
  • If a customer subscribed on 1/6/15 to a Master Plan with a quarterly recurring billing interval then the billing date occurs every three months on the sixth day of the month: 4/6/15, 7/6/15, 10/6/15, etc.
  • You have a customer who subscribed to a Master Plan on 1/3/15. If that Master Plan has an annual recurring billing interval, the customer will have a billing date that occurs once a year on the third day of the month: 1/3/15, 1/3/16, 1/3/17, etc.
  • You have a customer who subscribed to a Master Plan on 1/6/15. If that Master Plan has a quarterly recurring billing interval and a monthly usage billing interval, the customer will have a billing date that occurs every month on the sixth day of the month: 2/6/15, 3/6/15, 4/6/15.

Anniversary Date

The anniversary date is used to determine the proration period under certain conditions when you are switching a customer's Master Plan or assigning, canceling, or replacing a Supplemental Plan. The anniversary date is often the same date as a customer's billing date. This day occurs every month even if the customer is not subscribed to a monthly Plan. The anniversary date is determined at account registration time. A customer will not necessarily be billed on the anniversary day.

Examples
  • If a customer registers for an account and subscribes to an annual Master Plan on 1/15/15, that customer's anniversary day will be on the 15th of every month going forward (2/15/15, 3/15/15, 4/15/15, etc.). If a particular month ends before the occurrence of an anniversary day, then the anniversary day will fall on the last day of that month.
  • If the anniversary day is on the 31st of every month, then in June, the bill day would be on 6/30/15.
