Add Trials and Rollovers to a Plan

Overview

You can offer customers:

  • A trial Master Plan or Supplemental Plan that is free for a specified period of time, and then automatically rolls over to a paid Plan.
  • A Master Plan that is free for a specified period of time, and then is automatically billed at a specified rate.
  • A Master Plan that is free for a specified period of time, and then features a discounted rate for a certain period of time, and then automatically rolls over to a different Plan that features a regular rate.

Note: If you are creating a free Plan that rolls over to a different paid Plan, you must first create the paid Plan, then create the free Plan.

  • Free Period: Specifies the duration that the Plan is offered for free. Aria does not bill the customer for the Plan until the free period has elapsed.
  • Plan Status: Specifies the status that the Plan has when a customer registers for this Plan. This must be a billable status for the customer to be billed after the trial period is over.
  • Period Until New Plan Status: Specifies the duration for which a customer is billed a discounted rate for the Plan.
  • Rollover Plan: Specifies the rollover Plan to which the customer rolls over once the free period ends.
  • Period Until New Rollover Plan: Specifies the amount of time until the customer transitions from a trial Plan to a paid Plan.

Examples of Rollovers

There are many different scenarios in which rollovers can be applied in Aria. This section contains a few different scenarios and provides instructions for how to set up rollovers for each.

Create a Master Plan that is free for a period of time and is later billed at a specified rate.

Create a Master Plan that is billed at, for instance, a rate of $50 a month. If you specify that the Plan is free for one month, Aria does not bill the subscribed customers for one month. After the month has gone by, subscribed customers are billed at a rate of $50 a month.

To create this rollover Plan setup, select the Initial Free Period Number to specify the number of free months that you offer. Aria does not bill the customer for the Plan until the initial free period has elapsed.

Note: Do not complete the Initial Account Status, Days Until New Plan Status, New Plan Status, Months Until New Rollover Plan, and Rollover Plan fields.

Create a Master Plan that is free for a period of time, then rolls over to a different paid Plan.

You can create Plan A that is free for one month then rolls over to Plan B that costs $50 a month. You must first create Plan B with services billed at $50 a month, then create Plan A, which contains free services.

To create this rollover Plan setup, select the Initial Plan Status to specify the status that a Plan has when a customer registers for the trial Plan.

Note: This must be a billable status for the customer to be billed after the trial period is over.

  1. Select the Months Until New Rollover Plan to specify the number of months for which a customer is subscribed to the free Plan.
  2. Select the Rollover Plan to specify the paid Plan to which the customer is upgraded to after the free trial period is over.

Note: Do not complete these fields: Initial Free Period Number, Period Until New Plan Status Number, New Plan Status.

Create a Master Plan that is free for a period of time, then is billed at a discounted rate for a number of months, then rolls over to a different paid Plan.

You can create Plan A that is free for one month, then billed at a discounted rate of $99 for six months, then rolls over to Plan B that is billed at the regular rate of $159 a month. You must first create Plan B with services billed at $159 a month, then create Plan A with services billed at $99 a month.

To create this rollover Plan setup:

  1. Select the Initial Free Period Number to specify the number of free months that you offer. Aria does not bill the customer for the Plan until the specified number of free months has elapsed.
  2. Select the Initial Plan Status to specify the status that an account has when a customer subscribes to the trial Plan.

Note: This must be a billable status so the customer is billed after the trial period end.

  1. Select the Months Until New Rollover Plan to specify the number of months for which a customer is billed at a discounted rate for the Plan.

Note: The Months Until New Rollover Plan must be equal to the number of Initial Free Period Number plus the number of months for which a customer is billed a discounted rate for the Plan.

If the number of Initial Free Period Number is 1, and the number of discounted rate months is 6, then the Months Until New Rollover Plan must be set to 7 (6 +1).

  1. Select the Rollover Plan to specify the paid Plan to which the customer is upgraded after the free trial period is over.

Note: Do not complete the Days Until New Plan Status and New Plan Status fields.

Create a Master Plan that is free for a number of days, then is billed at your specified rate.

You create a Master Plan that is billed at a rate of $55 a month. If you specify that the Plan is free for seven days, Aria does not bill the subscribed customers for 7 days. After the 7 days have passed, Aria bills the subscribed customers at a rate of $55 a month.

To create this rollover Plan setup:

  1. Select the Initial Plan Status to specify the status that an account has when a customer subscribes to the trial Plan.
  2. Select the Days Until New Plan Status to specify the number of free days that you offer.
  3. Select the New Plan Status to specify the status that an account has after the free trial period is over.

Create a Supplemental Plan that will be free for a period of time, then will roll over to a different paid Plan.

You can create Plan A that is free for one month, then rolls over to Plan B that costs $50 a month. You must create Plan B with services billed at $50 a month, then create Plan A that contains free services.

To create this rollover Plan setup:

  1. Select the Months Until New Rollover Plan to specify the number of months for which a customer is subscribed to the free Plan.
  2. Select the Rollover Plan to specify the paid Plan to which the customer is upgraded after the free trial period is over.

Note: These fields are not available for Supplemental Plans: Initial Free Months, Initial Plan Status, Period Until New Plan Status Number, New Plan Status.

  1. After you have made all of your changes, click Review & Confirm at the top of the screen to review your Plan information.
