Create a New Product Offering Category

Overview

Product Offering Categories are used to organize similar product offerings in a catalog. Catalog categories make it easier for sales agents to browse and navigate product offerings when creating opportunities, quotes, and orders.

Note: The role required to create a new Product Offering Category is sn_prd_pm_product_catalog_admin and sn_prd_pm_product_catalog_manager.

Create a Product Offering Category

Click on the New Button.png

  1. From the CSM/FSM Configurable Workspace, use the List icon to navigate to Offerings > Product Offering Categories, and click on the New button.

The Create New Product Offering Category screen is displayed as shown above.

Note: The Number field is a system-generated number that identifies the product catalog.

  1. Type in a Product Offering Category Name.
  2. Clicking on the Leaf checkbox indicates that the category can have product offers but not subcategories. If Leaf isn’t selected, the category can only have subcategories but not product offers.
  3. Select the Attach Image links to upload a Thumbnail Image or Image of your category if desired.

Note: The State field displays the current status of the category. The supported life cycle states are Draft, Published, Retired, or Copied to Catalog.

  • Published: The product category has been published to the catalog. After a category is published, you can update it. You can delete, retire, or archive it if there are no associated product offerings.
  • Retired: Category has been retired and is no longer active. The category can’t be updated.
  • Archived: Category has been archived and is no longer available for use.
  • Copied to Catalog: The product category has been copied.
  1. Click on the Calendar icon to choose the Start date, then select OK. This Start date indicates when this category is available for Sales and Order Management applications. 
  2. Click on the Calendar icon to choose the End date, then select OK. This End date indicates when this category is no longer available for Sales and Order Management applications. 
  3. The system automatically generates a Code based on the category Name entered. You can change the value to any desired alphanumeric string if desired.
  4. Type in a Description of this catalog.
  5. Click on the Save button.

  1. Click on the Catalogs menu option.

  1. Click on the New button.

  1. Click on the Catalog field's search icon and select a catalog from the Catalog popup window.
  2. Click on the Save button.

Publish the New Product Category

  1. Click on the Details tab for the category.

  1. Click on the Category's Details tab.

  1. Click on the Publish button.

A confirmation popup displays indicating that "Changes to the product category are not allowed once published. Are you sure you want to publish?"

  1. To publish the category, click on the OK button.

The newly published Category's Details screen displays as shown above. 

Repeat step 1 to view the new Product Offering Category displayed on the Offerings - Product Offerings Categories screen as shown below.
